The festive period comes with its fair share of indulgence and as all that celebrating comes to an end, we’re often more than ready to ditch the party hats and start the new year healthy. There’s a lot to be said about ‘starting the day right’ and a healthy shake can set you up perfectly!

Dry January has become a regular entry in the calendar as more and more people decide to take a break from the booze and go alcohol free for the month. It’s a great way of raising awareness or kick starting a new routine and can come with various short term-benefits too.

The ‘cold turkey’ approach is always worth a try as it can help to establish healthy new habits, but it isn’t for everyone. Cutting out completely can sometimes feel too pressurised and have an adverse effect. That’s why at Purition we think having a little of what you fancy can be a good thing. It may mean taking a little longer to reach your goals, but what’s the rush? Eating and drinking healthily should be a lifestyle decision and so it needs to be sustainable.

So if you’re giving Dry January a go and you’re finding it hard, don’t panic or beat yourself up because you had a glass of wine at the weekend… Just get back on it or decide to just drink less in the week, and allow yourself a glass at the weekend. You can still enjoy the odd glass and remain on track to reaching your goals.

For those looking to cut out or simply reduce their alcohol intake, we’ve prepared our very own mojito cocktail recipe for you to try.

The good news is – there’s not a drop of rum in sight so it’s perfect for one of your alcohol free days! To make our Purition Mojito Smoothie you’ll need the following...

  • 1 cup of kale, shredded
  • 1 cup of pineapple, cubed
  • ¼ cup of fresh mint leaves
  • Juice of ½ lime
  • 40g of Purition Pistachio
  • 250ml coconut milk

  • Blend all the ingredients together in a high speed blender or with a handheld blender and enjoy with a slice of lime.

A perfect recipe that can be enjoyed throughout the year – even in January, when you’re dreaming of those summer months. Plus you’ll be loading your body full of high quality vitamins and minerals too – win, win!
