We are feeling really Chia-ful, due to all the current coverage of plant-based choices and reducing food miles. We are celebrating because Purition now contains UK grown Chia seeds, meaning more support for local food producers.
We look forward to sharing more of this story with you very soon, along with why it's important to us. But for now, here's a delicious recipe for you to try, which showcases this small but mighty ingredient!
Vanilla Vegan Chia Pudding
150ml of your favourite Milk
30g Chia seeds
1/2 teaspoon Vanilla extract
1 teaspoon Maple syrup (or to taste)
It couldn't be easier! Simply whisk all ingredients in a container - Cover and refrigerate overnight (or for a few hours until nice and thick). Serve and enjoy.
For a personal touch, how about adding a teaspoon of cocoa powder, cinnamon, orange zest, peanut butter (palm oil free of course!) or a scoop or two of your favourite Purition before eating.
Top with berries, banana or a layer of coconut yoghurt.
Your Chia Pudding will keep 4-5 days refrigerated.
Other ideas for your Chia…
Chia seeds make great additions to your cooking and baking. You can use them to thicken a sauce, soup or stew after it is already cooked. Just let these tiny seeds soak, as they will absorb 10-12 times their own weight in water.
Or how about jazzing up your favourite breakfast recipes. You can try adding chia seeds to overnight oats, homemade bircher or porridge.
There are lots of dishes you can prepare with chia seeds that don’t need any cooking at all. Chia seeds form a gel when soaked in water or juice, so they are a great healthy addition to jams and jellies. Or try them in apple juice to make tasty “frogspawn” for curious kids!
